  • On March 13, 2013 the Wayne County District Attorney Janine Edwards
announced the arrest of Alejandro Enrique Vela-Garrett, D/O/B: 10/18/1994 on a
Felony Arrest Warrant from Palm Beach County, Florida and Brandon A. Forman,
D/O/B: 05/25/1994, on Felony Conspiracy to Deliver a Controlled Substance charge.
Vela-Garrett was wanted in Florida for Felony Grand Theft Auto and Fleeing or Eluding Police.
A joint investigation was undertaken by the Pennsylvania State Police Vice Unit and the Wayne County District Attorney's Drug Task Force to apprehend Vela-Garrett at his residence on Route 191, Newfoundland, Pennsylvania. Information had been received that Vela-Garrett was dealing drugs in the Newfoundland area and that he was in possession of various weapons.
According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause filed against Forman, earlier yesterday evening both Vela-Garrett and Forman were involved in a controlled purchase of drugs in Newfoundland which led officers to the Vela-Garrett home. The arrest warrant for Vela-Garrett was then executed wherein the officers found both Vela-Garrett and Forman inside the home. A search of Vela-Garrett's home
found two semi-automatic rifles, an AK 47 and an AR 15, and a Glock handgun. Also
located inside the home was marijuana, prescription pain pills and drug paraphernalia.
PSP Vice and the Wayne County Drug Task Force arresting officers took Vela-Garrett
and Forman into custody. Vela-Garrett is currently charged with Arrest Prior to
Requisition, however more charges are expected to be filed today. Forman was
charged with Criminal Conspiracy to Deliver a Controlled Substance, a felony. Both
Vela-Garrett and Forman were arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Bonnie
Carney last night. The two are currently in custody at the Wayne County Correctional Facility. Bail is set for Vela-Garrett at $500,000.00 and for Forman at $50,000.00.
District Attorney Edwards stated that the investigation and coordinated effort
between Pennsylvania State Police Vice officers and the Wayne County District
Attorney's Drug Task Force detectives was exceptional. She said, "the officers involved in this case committed to apprehending Mr. Vela-Garrett quickly as he was a significant threat to the Newfoundland community as well as to the students and faculty at the Wallenpaupack South Elementary School. I am very pleased he is off the streets. The fact that he had semi-automatic weapons within 1000 feet of an elementary school was not going to be tolerated and required immediate action. The officers involved took the responsibility of apprehending Vela-Garrett extremely seriously and acted swiftly and with great attention to detail."
We will have more on this breaking story as information becomes available.
