— The Wayne County Historical Society announced the selection of its interim director, Franziska Zuercher-Mindrup.
She is the former director of Visitor Services at the Bern History Museum in Bern, Switzerland.
Zuercher-Mindrup began work in January in order to familiarize herself with the museum before it re-opens in April.
Three years ago, Zuercher-Mindrup moved to Scranton from Switzerland with her husband. He was the first professor hired for the new school of architecture at Marywood University.
After having been a stay-at-home mom for three years, she is extremely excited to have found a position in her field. Franziska is sure that the interim director position is perfect for her since it allows her to keep a nice balance between the work she enjoys and her family.
When asked why she was drawn to the position, she said, "As a history major, I am fascinated by Honesdale's important role in U.S. history and I am looking forward to exploring what the museum has to offer in terms of artifacts and reviving the region's past."
Zuercher-Mindrup was a standout among a highly qualified pool of applicants interviewed by the Board of Directors Hiring Committee. She takes over for Long-time Director Sally Talaga, while Talaga takes a leave of absence.
Elaine Herzog, president of the Wayne County Historical Society Board, stated, "The Board of Directors and I are extremely pleased to welcome Ms. Zuercher-Mindrup as Interim Director. After a few short weeks it is evident that the Society's ongoing initiatives have been placed in very capable hands.
"I have no doubt that in the coming months her prior work at the Bern History Museum will help facilitate our continuing mission, and I predict that our expectations may well be surpassed as she introduces us to potentially new and different ideas and programs."
The Wayne County Historical Society will re-open to the public on Saturday, April 20 with an Open House from 4-7 p.m. The Society and Museum Shop are located at 810 Main Street in downtown Honesdale, until they reopen refer to their website at http://www.waynehistorypa.org/ or follow them on Facebook.
