- Friendship House has announced the opening of a new center for early learning in Honesdale.
The center for early learning, named “Growing by Leaps and Bounds,” is a full day Pre-K program and daycare center for boys and girls, ages six weeks through 12 years. The program is expected to open and be ready to accept enrollments in Spring 2013.
The Friendship House center for early learning, Growing by Leaps and Bounds, features research-based education, and social, emotional, behavioral curricula, including Opening the World of Learning (OWL) and The Incredible Years.
Growing by Leaps and Bounds is an expansion of early learning services first made available in Scranton in 2012 with the development of the East Mountain Center for Early Learning (EMCEL), and Growing by Leaps and Bounds in Hawley at Lake Wallenpuapack, opening Spring 2013.
Growing by Leaps and Bounds will be available at 190 Delaware Street in Honesdale. Friendship House has provided Early Childhood Partial Hospitalization services for the past seven years at this location and will be discontinuing this program in March 2013.
While the utilization of center-based Partial Hospitalization program services has diminished, the opportunity to serve children through new and innovative ways has emerged. Friendship House has responded to this change with the development of centers for early learning.
As Justine Fraser, Child Care Center Manager/Lead Teacher of EMCEL explains, “'Our Centers for Early Learning’ are inclusive centers with a structured educational program in addition to the daycare portion of the day.
"With the help of a social and emotional program and a research-based curriculum, we will be teaching typically developing children as well as children with mild physical and developmental disabilities to learn and grow together."
Outpatient Services are still available on site. Connections: Child and Family Counseling Services continues to provide a combination of services for children ages two to 21 and their families and features an evidence-based, positive parenting, live coaching program entitled “Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT).”
The Friendship House Center for Early Learning and Outpatient Services is located at 190 Delaware Street in Honesdale, across from Bold’s Floral & Garden Center on Route 6.
