Vacation season is right around the corner, and with that, your diet is even harder to stick to. Many people think that when they are on vacation they can throw out their diet all together. Better yet, some people do not even attempt to stay on their diet. Lucy and I are here to give you some easy tips to help you diet while you are on vacation, and still enjoy the wonderful foods that are out there.

While on vacation everyone wants to eat out every meal of every day. In order to keep better track of your calories, opt to have one meal in. Before you leave for your trip, plan which meal you will eat in. This can be any meal of your choosing. If you choose breakfast as your eat in meal, bring lower sugar instant oatmeal, whole-grain breakfast cereal, power bars, or breakfast bars. You can also find a local grocery store and stock up on fresh fruit. Other than helping with your calorie intake, this will also help you save some money so you can enjoy other things on your trip.

Go for the zero calorie or lower drinks while on vacation. Ask for water with lemon or lime, or ask for coffee and tea with less sugar. I apologize to even type this but alcohol will be your diet killer while you’re on vacation. Whenever, we go on vacation we consume twice the amount of alcohol that we normally would in any given week while at home. All that extra alcohol can tack on an extra 150 calories to…….450 calories!!!! Also, the more alcohol you drink, the more dehydrated you get, the more dehydrated you get the more water you drink, the more water you drink due to alcohol means the more water your body will retain. We are not saying that you cannot kick back a few drinks while your kicking back on your vacation, just keep in mind the amount of empty calories you may be having.

Be aware of table munchies. This may come in the form of chips, crackers, bread, anything that is on the table prior to your meal. These little devils can add a ton of calories to your meal. Also, while you are out don’t be afraid to order fish every chance you get. It's a great way to get your weekly dose of fish and their heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids. However, make sure you avoid breaded or deep fried fish, as this is also a calorie killer.

Finally, while on vacation by all means have dessert. YES you did read that correctly we told you to have dessert but, share it. Even though that chocolate cake may be the best cake you have ever eaten in your life, share it with your husband, boyfriend, girlfriend, whoever. DO NOT eat it all!! Vacation is a time for relaxing and regrouping. Hopefully, this blog helped you keep your diet regrouped while on vacation.
