HONESDALE — The Citizens Savings Bank on Route 6 in Honesdale was robbed on Wednesday afternoon.
It appears a lone person robbed the bank but police were still investigating the case at press time.
The incident took place at around 1:50 p.m., according to reports on police airwaves.
An eyewitness at the scene said she was sitting in her vehicle waiting on her husband to come out of the bank. After quite some time, she said she was about to go into the bank to check on her husband when the suspect ran out of the bank and down Route 6.
She described the robber as someone who was short, wearing blue jeans and a black, hooded sweatshirt. She said he did not have a mask. She said he appeared to be young but did not get a good look at his face.
According to the police radio traffic, the suspect was carrying a green grocery bag as he left the bank. He was said to be a white male.
The witness was told by police that nobody inside the bank was harmed in the incident.
The witness did not see any weapon though police said over the airwaves the suspect was considered armed and dangerous.
Police vehicles were seen in the area of the bank as well as along Old Willow Avenue near the Rent-E-Quip building. At one point, the police said the suspect might be in that area.
At around 2:30 p.m., police airwaves indicated a suspect was possibly in the area of Buck's Cove Road.
At the scene of the incident, an officer from the Pennsylvania State Police was on the scene as was a unit from the Honesdale Borough Police Department.
Police tape had been strung across the main entrance of the bank as well as in front of the bank. A state trooper was taking fingerprints from the front door of the bank.
