  • Victory is mine!

  • After more than two months of abstinence, the lure of McDonald's Fries were calling my name last Sunday. They were screaming my name actually. As we pulled into the parking lot I remarked to Jim that I felt like someone who was about to commit a crime. I considered pulling my sunglasses out of my purse and pulling up the hoodie on my sweater over my head, but decided to forgo the Unabomber look.

As we stood at the counter scanning the menu board I considered my options. My normal choice would have been a "#2 with cheese". I noted the calorie count and moved on. I chose instead a 3 pc Chicken Select, a medium fry and a diet coke. I ate half the fries and saved myself 190 calories. We timed it so it qualified as brunch and I was able to combine my breakfast/lunch points and balanced it with a healthy chicken and broccoli stir fry for dinner that evening.
It would have been smarter maybe to fight the craving but past experience has taught me that depriving yourself completely can lead to failure and eventual binging when trying to lose weight. The binging then leads to an "oh well I blew that" attitude and the next thing you know you are off plan.
    Not me. Not this time.
This week I also traveled to Rochester for work. I was really worried about "falling off the wagon".
There is something about staying in a hotel that tricks your mind into believing you are on vacation. Vacations usually mean splurging. Work related travel also usually means eating out and having a couple of cocktails with colleagues at the end of the day.
I packed healthy snacks and my bathing suit. I researched the hotel beforehand and discovered they had an indoor pool. My friend/co-worker Kristy was also coming so I texted her and said "Girlfriend, bring your swimmies"! (I was able to clock in 90 minutes of swim time in the course of two days before and after classes.)
Even though I did have a few wines both evenings, and ate well while I was away, I did both in moderation and countered it with exercise.
My progress? 3.4lbs for a new total of 17.8 since the WNM challenge began.
