  • -On Friday morning Antler Ridge Winery received a check from the Tri-District Loan Fund and USDA Rural Development Loan Fund, in the amount of $115,000, to purchase land for the building.
These loans are part of the Intermediary Relending Program with USDA and are managed by NEPA Alliance. They allow small businesses to expand.
"Our main goal is to promote and help the community," said Stephen Unis, owner of Antler Ridge Winery. "Our focus is on Pennsylvania, especially northeastern PA."
He said that he got started after seeing that wineries didn't really exist in northern PA.
"We pride ourselves in helping out the local economy," Unis stated. "I thank everyone for their help and support. We appreciate it very much."
He was working with David Nat, business finance manager for NEPA Alliance, through the process.
"This is the kind of thing we like to see," said Nat. "We want to be able to help small businesses grow."
"We thank you for all your hard work," said Wayne County Commissioner Jonathan Fritz.
"This is what the President was talking about in his State of the Union Address," said Thomas Williams, state director for USDA Rural Development. "It's about helping businesses grow and providing more employment opportunities."
"This is a great start and great opportunity for us," said Unis. "We've been very successful so far and have won many awards and medals."
In 2005 Unis opened Antler Ridge Winery and currently has four locations in Pennsylvania, with its main location in Rome, Bradford County.
Waymart was the second location and was formed in 2007. The other locations are Lake Wallenpaupack and Skippack in Montgomery County.
"We're working on having another location in the Kutztown area," Unis said.
He said that they are hoping to do events such as a car night and art show, and allow the public to use the backyard. You can visit their website at www.antlerridgewinery.com.
