Water works! Especially with these tasty tips!
One of the most important things to living a healthy lifestyle is to drink plenty of water. The big question is, “Are you someone that cannot drink just plain water because they get bored?” Here are some tips to help you spruce up your water, in turn helping you drink more of it.
Try adding some lemon, lime or orange slices to your water. Put the slices of your choice in your water bottle & fill it the night before. Then, let them soak all night. The next day you will have some awesome tasting water. Just keep in mind that before you put the slices in the water, it is a good idea to wash the outside of whatever you are using thoroughly. We also recommend taking out any seeds that may be hiding in the fruit.
If lemon, lime or oranges are not your thing, try adding some mint leaves and cucumber to your water. This will give it a great minty taste. Mint also is a calming agent. This means adding mint to your water may actually help you calm down if you are having a bad day at work. On top of that, mint also holds wonderful digestive aiding qualities. It can calm your stomach and help you digest food thus creating a very happy & healthy stomach!
Be careful not to accidentally put added sugars to your water. Surprisingly, these can be apparent in fruit juices, so watch out! Using 100% pure fruit juice is a great way to add some zing to your water also, but like we said, make sure there aren't any added sugars lurking in it! The Mayo Clinic offers the advice: “Check for ingredients ending in "ose" — that's the chemical name for many types of sugar, such as fructose, glucose, maltose and dextrose.” Some of the big added sugars according to the Mayo Clinic would be: Cane juice & cane syrup, Corn sweeteners and high-fructose corn syrup, fruit juice concentrate and nectars, honey, malt syrup, and molasses. Notice that honey and fruit juice concentrate are on the list, this is because they offer no nutritional value over white sugar and should be used just as sparingly. When using fruit juice, just a splash is all you need to really enhance the flavor of your water!
