Puppy tied to truck, drug through road
— A four month old mixed puppy was tied to the bumper of a truck and was dragged over a mile on Bridge Street Monday afternoon.
He was taken to Dessin Animal Shelter then they took him to Cherry Ridge Veterinary Hospital. The puppy had surgery Tuesday night.
"He suffered severe road rash, a severe laceration to the head and lost an ear," said Marlene Metzger, PA Humane Society officer who also works for Dessin Animal Shelter. "Right now he is stable and resting comfortably."
She said she thinks the puppy is a German Shepherd mix, but couldn't confirm for certain.
"He will make a full recovery," said Dr. Amy Platko from Cherry Ridge Veterinary Clinic. "I believe it was a tragic accident."
She said that the puppy was healthy apart from the injuries he received on Monday.
"For now he will stay at the clinic until his wounds start to heal," said Platko. "In about a month his wounds should be unnoticeable. The only thing you would see is his missing ear."
Metzger said that the PA Dog Warden is also investigating the incident.
"Charges will be filed," she said.
