- The Honesdale Area Jaycees named William "Bill" Schweighofer, President and CEO of The Honesdale National Bank, Boss of the Year for 2013. He was nominated by the employees of HNB.

The Jaycees held a dinner at Tick Tocks on Tuesday, Jan. 22 to present the Boss of the Year 2013 award to Bill. Many employees and board members from The Honesdale National Bank and members of the Jaycees were present.

Dr. John Burlein, Chairman of the Board of Directors for HNB and Mark Graziadio, Vice President, had some complimentary remarks about Bill. He was then congratulated and presented a plaque by the Jaycees.

"I truly feel honored, and humbled, by this award," said Schweighofer. "I was a Jaycee for years, and I attended many of these dinners. I know many of the prior winners. It is quite a prestigious group – people I have looked up to and admired over the years – and I am proud to be included."

Schweighofer continued, "I have to tell you I am also a bit embarrassed to win this. I consider it a privilege and an honor to be the boss of the employees at The Honesdale National Bank. Their work ethic and dedication to the goals and values of our bank make it possible for me to win this award. They are a wonderful group. I feel like the award should say 'Employees of the Year.' So while I truly am honored to win this, I will always consider this a Honesdale National Bank award, not a personal award."

"The Honesdale National Bank is a great company," Schweighofer added. "We have dedicated employees and we have a board that is comprised of very successful business people with tremendous foresight. I'm incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to work at HNB for so many years."

Tim Meagher, Jaycees Chairman, said, "What a great event for Mr. Bill Schweighofer, for The Honesdale National Bank employees, and for the Honesdale Area Jaycees.

"The Jaycees support the community in many ways, but this event is by far my favorite to be a part of. Each year we are able to honor a great person in the local community who is loved by their employees.

"This year our honoree, Mr. Schweighofer, is also a former Jaycee. Our community is blessed to receive the support it does from The Honesdale National Bank as well as the other local banks in our town.

"This year the Jaycees are honored to give this award to Bill, who exemplifies the last two lines of the Jaycees creed, which say 'That earth's greatest treasure lies in human personality, and that service to humanity is the best work of life.' Congratulations, Bill."

Schweighofer is a Honesdale native and an alumnus of Bucknell University where he majored in accounting and business administration. Following graduation he joined the Peace Corps and spent over two years in Mali, West Africa.

He began his career at HNB in January 1975 and worked in many departments. He joined the Board of Directors in 1986 and became President of HNB in 1989. He recently celebrated his 38th year at HNB.

Bill puts others before himself and gives back to his community. He is involved with various organizations within the local community i.e., Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers, WEDCO, the Greater Honesdale Partnership, and the Honesdale Lions Club.

He was recently elected to the Pennsylvania Bankers Association Board of Directors and serves as the board's second vice chairman.

Schweighofer is a huge proponent of shopping locally and can be seen on most any day walking up and down Main Street saying hello to friends as well as strangers.

The employees have come to know that Bill is very compassionate and caring. He shows a genuine interest for his coworkers and their families.

During his free time Schweighofer can be found fly fishing or bird hunting with his dog Gunner, a Braque Francais. He truly believes that family and friends are the "most important things in life." Schweighofer is the proud father of Mark, an attorney in Maryland, daughter-in-law Jessica, and granddaughter, Ella.
