-State Rep. Frank Farina, D-Lackawanna/Wayne, has announced his committee appointments for the 2013-14 legislative session.
Farina has been elected Democratic secretary of the Tourism and Recreational Development Committee and has also been appointed as a member of the Environmental Resources & Energy and Game and Fisheries committees.
The Tourism and Recreational Development Committee oversees legislation which pertains to the state’s large tourism industry. The committee has jurisdiction over the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.
The Environmental Resources and Energy Committee works with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to establish regulations on environmental issues, including air and water quality and waste management.
The committee also has oversight of the Department of Environmental Protection, Environmental Hearing Board, Environmental Quality Board and the State Board for Sewage Treatment Plant and Waterworks Operators.
The Game and Fisheries Committee reviews bills which affect the Game Commission and Fish and Boat Commission. Both commissions are independent entities and rely on licensing and use fees for a significant portion of their funding.
"All three of these committees directly affect the lives most of the residents of the 115th District," Farina said. "I am glad to be part of the Game and Fisheries Committee since I am an avid outdoorsman and love hunting and fishing.
"I look forward to representing the views of the residents of the 115th District, both in these committees and also during the deliberations on the House floor."
