Jeannie Marie Brooks, a former employee of the Wayne County Tax Claim Bureau, has plead guilty to "one count of theft by unlawful taking or disposition," a first degree misdemeanor and one count of first degree forgery, a second degree felony.
Brooks was arrested in October of last year after being accused of stealing upwards of $11,000 from the Tax Claim Bureau between April 2012 and July 2012.
At the time of the arrest, District Attorney Janine Edwards said the investigation was "ongoing for a few months." She also said "cash and money orders" were also allegedly taken.
A release from the DA's office states that Brooks "stole money there at various time throughout 2012 when it was received from Wayne County residents paying their taxes."
In the summer of 2012, the Tax Claim Bureau "noticed that there was a discrepancy in the account of the Tax Claim Bureau. The amount of money that was received by the bureau did not match the amount of money that was deposited into their account."
Brooks is scheduled to be sentenced on April 11.

DONALD LAMBERTON, age 36 of Waymart, PA was sentenced to pay all Court costs for one count of Harassment, Strike, Shove, Kick, graded as a Summary offense. He was also ordered to pay a fine in the amount of $300.00.
The incident occurred on January 2, 2012, in Waymart Borough when Lamberton struck a female victim.
DANIELLE MCNAMARA, age 26 of Hawley, PA was sentenced to pay all Court costs for one count of Theft By Unlawful Taking or Disposition, graded as a Misdemeanor of the 3rd Degree. She was also ordered to pay a fine in the amount of $100.00, pay restitution in the amount of $599.99, and be placed on probation for a period of 6 months.
The incident occurred on July 13, 2012, in Hawley Borough when McNamara stole a cellular phone.
THOMAS RICHARD RANKIN, age 38 of Hawley, PA pled guilty to one count of Distribute Small Amount of Marijuana Not For Sale, graded as a Summary offense.
The incident occurred on February 4, 2012, in Paupack Township when Rankin gave Marijuana to a minor female for her birthday. He is scheduled to be sentenced on April 18, 2013.
Page 2 of 2 - LILLIAN WEEDEN, age 46 of Beach Lake, PA pled guilty to one count of Forgery, graded as a Misdemeanor of the 1st Degree.
The incident occurred on November 22, 2011, in Texas Township when Weeden forged a prescription. She is scheduled to be sentenced on April 11, 2013.
KEVIN SWENSEN a/k/a KEVIN SWENDSEN, age 29 of Honesdale, PA pled guilty to one count of DUI or Controlled Substance, an ungraded Misdemeanor and one count of Driving While Operating Privilege Suspend/Revoked, graded as a Summary offense.
The incident occurred on September 9, 2012, in Honesdale Borough. At that time Swensen refused to submit to the drawing of a blood sample for chemical testing. He is scheduled to be sentenced on April 11, 2013.
VERLENE KETCHAM, age 40 of Wilkes-Barre, PA pled guilty, in three separate cases, to two counts of Bad Checks, graded as Misdemeanors of the 3rd Degree and one count of Disorderly Conduct, also graded as a Misdemeanor of the 3rd Degree.
The incidents occurred between September 27, 2001, and July 24, 2002, in various locations in Wayne County, when Ketcham wrote bad checks and made several threatening telephone calls. She is scheduled to be sentenced on April 18, 2013.
