  • HARRISBURG-Central Boiler was in attendance at the 2013 Pennsylvania Farm Show telling consumers about E-Classic outdoor wood gasification furnace that the company offers.
"It's specifically designed for cold weather," said Mike Gilbertson, sales/marketing for Central Boiler. "It's EPA certified and is a totally renewable heat source."
Central Boiler is located in Greenbush, Minn., but there are dealers around the country. The company has been around since 1984.
The E-Classic is usually kept about 30-50 feet away from your home or business, but can go as far as 500 feet away. It also works with any existing heating system.
A water jacket surrounds the furnace firebox and heat exchanger. Heated water is then circulated to the building through insulated underground pipes. The heat is conveyed into the structure's heating system by means of water-to-air or water-to-water heat exchanges, or direct circulation.
"There's cleaner burning and it saves wood consumption," said Ryan Kezar, salesman for Central Boiler. "The amount of emission is also reduced. For the most part you only see steam, then it dissipates."
"The E-Classic almost eliminates heating costs," said Gilbertson. "It's over 90 percent efficient."
The E-Classic is meant to heat an entire home while saving you money; provide a safer alternative, eliminating dangers and mess associated with traditional indoor wood stoves; burn less wood; eliminate the negative effects of burning wood indoors and increases the advantages of wood heat; and reduce your carbon footprint with a renewable heat source.
Gilbertson and Kezar also talked about how you can monitor the furnace anywhere you go. There is a Fire Star II electronic controller and there is a Fire Star XP wi-fi module.
The wi-fi module allows you to view the water temperature and make changes to the controller from the "comfort of your house or garage;" view performance and history including local temperature, real-time status, charts and graphs and choose to have texts or emails sent to a web-enabled device with a data plan.
"You connect to MyFireStar.com through your home wi-fi network and stay in touch with your outdoor furnace from anywhere," said Gilbertson.
