Scapegoat Kevin Edwards, sports editor at The Wayne Independent, is shown in the water at Prompton State Park on Saturday during the Prompton Trail Day event.
An ice rescue demonstration was conducted by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission in conjunction with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Edwards said this was the fifth year he has volunteered to go into the water for the demonstration.
A block of ice was cut from the lake at Prompton and shows distinct layers. There are just two inches of "black ice," which is the most stable. Jarin Weinstein from Wayne Ambulance also discussed hypothermia and how people should handle the situation. Edwards is dragged out of the ice by Kaneski to close out the demonstration.
This was the first ever Prompton Trail Day and several hundred people attended. Besides this demonstration, there were many other activities, including snow shoe demonstrations, frisbee gold, cross country skiing, vendors and much more.
The event was spearheaded by Friends of Prompton Park with various co-sponsors from the local business community.
