Interfaith Outreach United (IOU) offers the gift of a holiday feast, with turkey and all the fixings, to low income families living within a 12-mile radius of Callicoon.
To receive a food box, a member of the family must register in advance at the Main Street Thrift Shop in Callicoon, no later than Saturday, Nov. 17. The Thrift Shop is open everyday except Sunday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Each box holds a turkey appropriate to the family’s size, stuffing mix, potatoes, vegetables, cranberry sauce and dessert makings.
The “fixings” are donated by churches which support IOU. Turkeys are provided by individuals and local businesses.
Anyone wishing to donate a turkey or contribute cash for purchase of turkeys should call IOU President Herb Bauernfeind (845-887-5637) or The Thrift Shop (845-887-5919).
Those who have pre-registered can pick up their food boxes on Monday, Nov. 19 between 12:30 and 2 p.m., at Hermann Hall of the Delaware Youth Center in Callicoon. There will be no deliveries.
Families who wish to receive Christmas turkeys and gifts for their children from the Christmas Toy Exchange may also sign up at the Thrift Shop during business hours.
