HARRISBURG- In continuing her efforts to serve the people of the 111th District in Susquehanna, Wayne and Wyoming counties, Rep. Sandra Major (R-Susquehanna/Wayne/Wyoming) on Nov. 13 was re-elected to her post as caucus chairman within the House Republican Caucus’s leadership team.
This will be Major’s fourth term in House leadership and 10th in the state House of Representatives.
"I am very grateful for the support shown by the people back home in the 111th District who continue to send me to Harrisburg to serve as their advocate, and I thank my colleagues at the Capitol for the trust they have placed in me to be a part of their leadership team," Major said. "The confidence in my abilities from both residents and peers is something that I have never taken for granted, and I pledge to work just as hard for them as I have done in the past."
The responsibilities of caucus chairman include conducting all Republican Caucus meetings, informing members of the session schedule, informing members of legislation scheduled for floor votes, notifying members when bills they are sponsoring are scheduled for a House vote and also if amendments are posted to their legislation. In addition, Major also participates in leadership discussions and helps to set the House agenda.
"As we approach a new legislative session, the work ahead of us will continue to be challenging, but I know that by working together as a team, we will be able to serve our residents and continue to make Pennsylvania a great place to live, work and do business," Major added.
The full House leadership team consists of House Majority Leader Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny), Majority Whip Stan Saylor (R-York), Appropriations Chairman Bill Adolph (R-Delaware), Policy Chairman Dave Reed (R-Indiana), Caucus Administrator Dick Stevenson (R-Mercer/Butler) and Caucus Secretary Mike Vereb (R-Montgomery).
Today’s leadership elections also included nominating Rep. Sam Smith (R Jefferson/Indiana/Armstrong) as designee for House Speaker. That election takes place on swearing-in day, Jan. 1, 2013, and is voted on by all members.
