  • - Drivers who ignore signs or signals for road closings will face monetary penalties.
Act 114, signed into law in Pennsylvania on July 5 by Gov. Tom Corbett, "reinforces the critical need for all drivers to obey traffic control signs," according to a release. The law also strives to to "increase safety for motorists and emergency responders in areas where flooding and other hazardous conditions exist."
Adding to the list of road closures, Route 670, north of Honesdale off of State Route 191 "is definitely closed," said Mike Taluto, Safety Press Officer for PennDOT.
The road is marked closed as it meets SR 191 north, off of Main Street in Honesdale, and is closed until the junction of SR 4013, Old Salem Pike, in Texas and Dyberry Townships.
Motorists have been observed going around the road closed signs and cones, located on both sections of Route 670, and cones have been pushed aside to make room for vehicles.
The road is closed for good reason, as "there are live wires down" in the roadway that are in need of repair.
Taluto said anyone observed driving on a road that is marked closed "will be subject to (up to) a $250 fine and two points on their license."
If the violation results in needing the response of emergency personnel, "the fine is increased to between $250 and $500." Also, violators will be held liable for repaying the costs of staging the emergency response.
