A Honesdale woman was found dead in her submerged vehicle this past weekend.

According to the Pennsylvania Highway Patrol, Jessica Daniels, 31, was found dead by divers in a pond of of State Road 296 at South Smith Road.

According to the report, sometime early Sunday morning, the 2009 Honda Civic being driven by Daniels was traveling east on South Smith Road approaching the intersection of SR 296.

For an unknown reason, Daniels failed to stop at the stop sign posted and went straight through the intersection and then off of the roadway.

The car then climbed a small embankment and continued into a pond, where it became fully submerged.

After an underwater search, the body of Daniels was located inside the vehicle at around 9:30 a.m. Sunday. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Wayne County Coroner Edward Howell.

Assistance at the scene was provided by members of the Scott Township Dive Rescue Team along with the Waymart and Browndale Fire companies.

Trooper Brian Rickard was the investigating officer.
