Catherine Russell, a genuine jazz and blues vocalist who can sing virtually anything, will open the Tusten Theatre fall season with pianist Mark Shane on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 8 p.m.
A native New Yorker, Catherine Russell has toured the world performing and recording with Paul Simon, David Bowie, Cyndi Lauper, Levon Helm and Rosanne Cash, among others.
She launched the European tour of her fourth CD, Strictly Romancin' in February, followed by a North American tour in May, playing to sold out audiences from Amsterdam and Paris to Sacramento and New York.
The new CD explores loves foibles, failures and bliss, from amorous to humorous —t aking listeners on a journey from a New Orleans gin joint to Uptown Cabaret — blurring the distinctions between the carnal and the eternal with songs like "Under the Spell of the Blues" and "I'm Checking Out – Goombye."
Catherine Russell will appear with pianist Mark Shane, known by Tusten Theatre audiences for his stride piano performances.
Mark performed at Tusten in the 1990s and wowed the audience with his piano techniques. Juxtaposing Catherine Russell's incredible voice (CatherineRussell.net) to Mark's talent is the recipe for an unforgettable evening on Oct. 6.
Tusten Theatre is located at 210 Bridge St in Narrowsburg. Tickets are $27 ($25 advance sales for DVAA members). For reservations call the Tusten Theatre box office at 845-252-7272.
