  • Arrest made in theft case

  • — On July 23 the Honesdale Borough Police Department investigated a burglary of a garage located on Overlook Ave.
    The victims reported that unknown actors entered their garage overnight and stole a large sum of various coins and currency.
    As a result of month and a half long investigation, Honesdale Borough Police officers obtained an arrest warrant on Sept. 12 for a William L. Swendsen, 27, of Milanville, charging him with Burglary, Theft By Unlawful Taking and Receiving Stolen Property all felonies.
    On Sept. 24, Swendsen was located and the arrest warrant was served in Old Forge, by the Old Forge Police Department. Swendsen was returned to Wayne County where he was arraigned before Magistrate Edwards. After failing to post $25,000 bail Swendsen was lodged in the Wayne County Correctional Facility.
    Detective LeStrange and Ptlm. Kominski were the investigating officers.
    Theft
    Between 8 p.m. Sept. 7 and 6 p.m. Sept. 10 unknown actors removed a Yamaha golf cart from the GDS Fairgrounds, Dreher Township. The vehicle was white and had an aluminum box on the rear of the vehicle and there was no top. It's an early 2000 model.

    Assault
    On Sept. 23 between 8:30 a.m. and 8:45 p.m. Pennsylvania State Police Honesdale responded to 972 Beach Lake Highway, Berlin Township, for the report of domestic assault.
    Upon arrival the actor had fled the scene. The victim and her son related that there had been a verbal argument inside the apartment.
    When the actor attempted to leave the apartment with car keys, both she and her son tried to stop him from leaving and both of them were pushed and thrown across the room.
    Her son related he was injured when he collided with the coffee table. A citation will be filed with District Court for harassment.
    ATV crash
    On Sept. 30 at 6:10 p.m., a head-on crash involving two ATVs occurred on Niles Road at the entrance to Camp Cayuga, Dyberry Towship.
    One of the drivers was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for multiple injuries. The investigation continues and no new details were available as of press time on Monday.
