  • — Wayne County Democrats opened their headquarters on Thursday morning.
"In Pennsylvania, we are feeling pretty good," said Mark Graziadio, chairman of the Wayne County Democrat Committee. "We are pretty good our state will go with the President."
The headquarters is located at 533 Main Street in Honesdale.
Graziadio said the plan is to have the office open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. They are also planning some night hours and those will be announced in the near future.
Persons can go to the headquarters and pick up literature, signs, voter registration forms and absentee ballots.
Graziadio said absentee ballots could be crucial this year with the unknown status of the state's new voter ID law. Local Democratic officials can help you vote absentee.
He said the headquarters will also be used for canvassing as well as operation of phone banks.
The office will be open through election day, said Graziadio.
He also said there are plans to do canvassaing around the county. Some of that is already being done by the Obama campaign, he said.
If you would like to volunteer or donate to the party, call 253-8788 and leave a message.
Graziadio said he believes Democrats are going to fare well in the upcoming election.
One thing he pointed out was how the Affordable Care Act has already had a major impact in Wayne County.
Wayne Memorial Hospital has received major grant awards for expansion because of the act, he said.
"It has had a tremendous impact," said Graziadio.
He did say there "is a lot more work to do" with the upcoming election, something which is always the case.
Graziadio is encouraged by the fact the Republican Party has announced they are going to do very limited television advertising in Pennsylvania.
"We're guardedly optimistic," said Graziadio about the election.
The party is also in the process of planning its annual dinner. That will be held on Friday, Oct. 12 at Central House. The social hour begins at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7.
Graziadio said they are working to secure Kathleen Kane as the guest speaker. Kane is the Democrat candidate for state attorney general.
If you would like to attend the dinner, call 253-5289 to make reservations.
