Bakker Marine was established in 1983 by Danny and Nick Bakker and is located on Route 590 in Hawley. It is a dealership representative for more than 12 lines of boats and motors offered by various companies including Bayliner, Godfrey, Stingray, Glastron, Mercury, Volvo, Minn Kota and Torqueedo.

Bakker Marine advocates employment for those with disabilities and works with employment services provided by the Community Vocational Services, to establish employment opportunities for those individuals.

“I've had the chance to become really acquainted with Bakkers over the past couple months,” says Alison Kondrovy, Community Vocational Services. “They're a very wonderful company and are very compassionate to all their employees. They treat everyone like equals and they are a really good example of what a lot of employers should be, not just with people with disabilities, but to everyone. We really don't find that very much in this business so I think it's safe to say that they definitely deserve this certificate of recognition.”

She also presented him with a certificate of appreciation from Commuity Vocational Services.

“We look forward to working with you in the future as well,” she told Bill Watson.
