- This Saturday, the Hideout Sportsman's Association will be offering a Pistol Familiarity Course at 9 a.m. The course will be held at the Property Owners Association (POA) building located in the Hideout.
The course is free to those who hold a valid PA Concealed Carry License and their families as well. If you do not have a license, you are welcome to attend but will not be able to participate in the live-fire segment of the course.
To apply for a license in Pennsylvania, one needs only to fill out an application consisting of a few dozen questions and not have been convicted of a relatively short list of offenses.
After a character witness is consulted and a short background check is conducted, most permits are approved well under the 45-day time limit the county sheriff's office has to process the permit.
The three-hour course is the second of the courses "handgun familiarity course designed to introduce attendees to aspects of handgun ownership and usage in a low-pressure, non-competitive presentation equally suited to men, women young and older," says Harry Gold, a member of Hideout Sportsman's Association. Gold is also the instructor for the course.
Gold said the course will focus on getting people familiar with the weapon and not instructing on them on how to shoot.
Participants will also receive instruction regarding proper storage of their weapons, ammunition choices and what to look for when choosing a holster.
For more information and scheduling dates for the classes, call Harry Gold at (570) 224-4471.
