  • — Eighteen years of garlic-y goodness!
A local tradition, the Pocono Garlic Festival is happening again on Labor Day Weekend, Sept1-2. Host site Shawnee Mountain Ski Area is pleased to offer a sampling of the regions' local farms, food vendors, crafters and entertainers for the Poconos locally-based, premier food festival.
    Home Grown
This event is truly all about the garlic and all the garlic featured, sold and used for food preparation at the event is grown and harvested in the Poconos. Local farms providing garlic and produce for the festival include: Knob View Farm, the Josie Porter Farm, Rolling Hills Farm, Fairman Farm, Burdick Creek Gardens, Mapleland Farms, Swarmbustin' Honey, Mountaindale Farm, Hooke & Crooke and Palatine Cheese Farm.
    Food and Craft Vendors
Over 60 vendors will provide a wide range of foods from simple to sophisticated, geared for the "foodie" with discerning taste buds. The 2012 Pocono Garlic Festival is a platform to showcase the regions most pungent garlic and finest eateries. Delectable delights will range from garlic beef brisket and apple garlic soup to garlic sauerkraut and garlic ice cream. Local artists and crafters will exhibit a variety of hand crafted garlic themed creations and wears at this years two day event. From homemade wood items to pottery to jewelry and even handcrafted soaps, garlic in every form imaginable will be on display.
    Non-Stop Music and Shows
Main stage performers include returning and zany headliners Zydeco-A-Go-Go, the country rocking Blue Emerald Band and the jazzy Len Mooney and the Roamin Gabriels. The New Pocono Bluegrass and Folk Society Stage will feature local favorites including The Juggernaut String Band, the Lost Ramblers and Plexigrass. The PA Dance Network will also be returning with several dance performances. With two outdoor stages, an outdoor children's area and petting zoo, educational lectures, New Garlic Eating Contest, cooking demonstrations and strolling acts, festival goers will enjoy a wide variety of non-stop live music and "garlic themed" novelty shows and entertainment geared towards the whole family.
    Educational Tent
Once again, we have dedicated an area of the festival to educational demonstrations and lectures and are excited to announce the return of culinary instructor and chef, Dan Rothman. Chef Dan will be serving up cooking demonstrations using Pocono grown garlic all weekend long. If you want to learn how to cook with garlic, this is the place to be!
Kathy Uhler will be joining us once again from the Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation Center with her array of animals. This organization provides a place for injured and orphaned wildlife to receive treatment until they can be released back into the wild. Kathy will be giving educational lectures on how these animals came to her center and what we can do to safely help wildlife in the Poconos.
Page 2 of 2 - Last but not least, we are pleased to welcome back Bob Dunkel to the 2012 Pocono Garlic Festival. Bob is a member of the Garlic Seed Foundation and editor of the Garlic Press. Bob will present two informative lectures on "Growing Your Own Garlic" and "Garlic History, General Health and Cooking Issues". Bob, who hails from Western New York, is devoted to garlic growing without the use of chemicals or supplements.
