Leona Lucille Olver, 95 of Honesdale, died on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband Delmore Olver on January 29, 1987. The couple married on September 15, 1941.
Born on March 20, 1917 in Hawley, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Bertha Daniels Ryder. She was a graduate of Honesdale High School, class of 1935. She was a switchboard operator in Beach Lake and later she prepared food at Beach Lake Elementary School.
Leona was an active member and instrumental in the founding of Honesdale Ambulance. She was a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church and active with the Bethany Methodist Church, making blankets for the homeless.
An avid reader, Leona enjoyed going to the Bethany Library.
She enjoyed bird watching, traveling and taking rides in her Dodge Spirit with her faithful companion Stripe. She loved spending time and seeing her grandchildren.
Surviving are her sons Zara Olver and wife Elizabeth of Waymart and Craig Olver and wife Janet of Honesdale; her daughter Sylvia Hemming of England; granddaughters Joan and Lee Wontroski, Marie and Stephen
Johnson, Judy and William Carstensen, Noelle Olver, Nina and Scott Bruce and Tara Olver and fiancee Will Tigue; grandsons Mark and Carolyn Olver and Sean and Lauren Hemming; 19 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Marguerite Ryder and Shirley Olver.
She was preceded in death by her brother Carl Ryder.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 31 at the Bethany Presbyterian Church at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. William Blackie officiating.
