  • On today's front page there is a story about an Eagle Scout project which took place at Prompton State Park.

Certainly, any Eagle Scout project is invaluable for both the community and the Scouts involved.

What makes this one so special is the fact it was at Prompton. The park has been in the news quite a bit recently — all for the good.

The state has allotted a little bit of money for the park, something which hasn't happened in years. It's status has also been changed from what was essentially "dormant" to what is now essentially "come on down."

That step in itself is huge because now people searching the state website can actually learn more about Prompton and understand it is open for business.

Wayne County needs Prompton State Park in so many ways. The economic and recreation boost it gives is immeasurable. It could really become a destination spot if local officials do the right promotional activities necessary.

Honesdale has lost its train rides. Whether they will ever come back remains to be seen.

Yet we have this wonderful resource just a hop, skip and jump from the edge of town. That's a resource we need to capitalize on in the biggest of ways.

We're hopeful more people will join in this effort and take action in restoring Prompton State Park back to its original glory.

We applaud the Boy Scouts who were involved in doing the project at Prompton. It's efforts like theirs which will continue to foster the much-needed growth of the park.
