  • For a 5th straight year, organizers are planning a benefit golf tournament for the sole purpose of raising funds for Dyberry Day Camp.
Weather permitting, this year’s edition of the event will be held on Thursday August 16th at Honesdale Golf Club. The festivities begin with registration and lunch at 11:30 a.m. A shotgun start will follow at 12:30 p.m.
Last fall, 60 linkstes braved cold and blustery conditions to participate in the tournament.
When the final putt dropped, the team of Jeff Giblin, Jeff Henderson, Mike Cole and George Muller finished first. This talented quartet   blistered the HGC course for a score of 55.
The 2011 event was hosted by Linda & Peter Tonetti, Jeff Giblin & Carissa Morgan and raised nearly $7,300 for the camp.
“This event has helped so many mentally and physically challenged children who attend camp,” Linda said. “These children never ask for much, so it’s up to us as a community to put our efforts together and lend a helping hand.”
Proceeds from this tournament and previous events have been used to purchase specially-designed equipment and to fund camp activities. All funds raised by the event go directly to help Wayne County residents with special needs.
    A Bit of History
Back in the early 1970s, a group of concerned parents and teachers from the JJ Koehler School banded together to establish the Dyberry Day Camp.
Last summer, the camp marked its 40th anniversary with a special celebration.
Over the course of the past four decades, Dyberry Day Camp has benefitted hundreds of local folks with special needs.
Cost to register for the tournament is $75 per person. This entitles players to lunch, dinner buffet, cart and greens fees.
