  •  – Visitors to White Mills will have a lot to do the weekend of Saturday, July 28 and Sunday, July 29 as the Dorflinger-Suydam Wildlife Sanctuary offers activities for the whole family. Shoppers in the Dorflinger Glass Museum Gift Shop can take advantage of a 20% discount off most merchandise during the “Christmas in July” sale, which runs both days.
History buffs can visit the museum during regular hours (Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1-4 p.m.). The restored 1867 Glassworker’s House on Charles Street is open for guided tours on Saturday only from 1-4.
Music lovers may attend two Wildflower Music Festival concerts on the Sanctuary grounds. The first features blues guitarist Ernie Hawkins who will perform from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, July 28. Tickets are $22 for adults and $11 for students and may be purchased at the ticket table.
The second concert is free of charge and takes place Sunday, July 29 from 4-6 p.m. Pianist Hyun Joo Park will perform a program featuring the works of Mozart, Liszt and Ravel. On Sunday, the glass museum will offer free admission as well and be open to concert-goers from 1-4 p.m. Plan to bring lawn chairs for the concert and a picnic and spend a relaxing Sunday afternoon on the Sanctuary’s beautiful grounds.
The village of White Mills lies halfway between Hawley and Honesdale on Route 6. At the blinking light adjacent to the White Mills Hotel in White Mills, turn and go up the steep hill (Elizabeth Street) for 6/10 of a mile to the stop sign at a second blinking light. Continue on for 1/10 of a mile to the entrance of the Sanctuary on your right. For additional information please call 570-253-1185 or on the internet at www.dorflinger.org.
