  •  - Now in its seventh year, the Wayne County United Way Fund Distribution Committee is pleased to once again announce that it is accepting applications for grant opportunities. Over the past six years, the United Way has distributed in excess of $270,000 to more than a dozen community and human service organizations providing critical programs and services in Wayne County.
Applicants must be non-profit, 501 (c) 3 health and human service organizations providing in-person, direct services in Wayne County. Funding may be requested for existing programs, new programs or initiatives, program expansion and capital items. Supplies that are an integral part of service delivery will also be considered. The grants available range from $500 to $7,500. The monies were raised during the last United Way campaign by individuals and businesses who specifically wanted to support services for Wayne County residents.
Copies of the application may be obtained from the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce located at 32 Commercial St. in Honesdale, online at www.uwlc.net or by calling the United Way at 343-1267 and requesting copies be either mailed or emailed. Completed applications must be mailed or delivered to the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce or to the United Way of Lackawanna and Wayne Counties, 615 Jefferson Avenue, Scranton PA 18510 by August 1, 2012.
The applications will be reviewed by the Wayne County United Way Fund Distribution Committee comprised of volunteers who live and/or work in Wayne County. The committee is responsible for all funding decisions and is chaired by Mike Jones of Loveshaw Corp.—an ITW company. Jill George of The Dime Bank is serving as vice chair.
“Our committee works hard to ensure that the generous contributions of our fellow donors are well spent to make the greatest impact here in Wayne County,” noted Mr. Jones. “The agencies receiving the grants certainly benefit, but its the community as a whole that is the greatest beneficiary as we work to advance the common good for all in Wayne County,” he added.
