  • On the heels of their victory in the District Five Cal Ripken championship game, the Honesdale Little Baseball Association’s 9-year-old all stars are headed to East Brandywine for the PA state tourney.
Under the watchful eyes of skipper Frank Bannan, the HLBA all stars defeated Forest City, 5-1, in the title tilt to seal the deal on a state invitation.
The Red &?Black’s lone loss came to these young Foresters, who by finishing second also earned a spot at the state tourney.
Coach Bannan is assisted by Jerry Jones, Todd Stephens, and AG Howell.
The local lads officially open their state title quest on Saturday morning at 11: 00 a.m. against Liberty. Game Two is slated for 5:00 p.m. versus New Oxford.
    By the Numbers
Every single player on the 9s roster has contributed to the team’s success.
However, dealing with the top of the HLBA batting order has been nightmarish for opposition pitchers.
Cole Bannan and Daniel Becker are a powerful 1-2 combo in the RBI?slots.
Bannan went 6-for-11 in the D-5 tourney. Cole hit a pair of homeruns and tallied five times. Becker had the team’s highest average, going 7-for-10 including a double, triple and homer.
Timmy Jackson has be-come the HLBA’s table setter. The speedy lead-off man laced four hits, scored twice and boasts an on-base average near .500.
Rob Campen is the 9s catcher and hits from the three hole. Campen batted .333 in at districts and tallied three runs.
Jimmy Rodda anchors the infield from his shortstop position. Rodda has a knack for getting on base and finding his way home, scoring five times at the D-5 tournament.
This year’s all star roster includes: Brady Hanson, Connor Coar, Sam Jones, Drew Howell, Jake Panza, Paul Meagher, Jack Cavanaugh, Chase Stephens, Zach Doherty, Robbie Campen, Daniel Becker, Cole Bannan, Jimmy Rodda, Timmy Jackson.
