In Sunday's District 32 title tilt, the Western Wayne 10-11 All Stars twice rallied to extend a game Paupack appeared to have in hand. The young 'Cats battled their Buckhorn counterparts through eight electrifying innings...

Western Wayne’s 10-11 All Star Team turned in an outstanding performance this past weekend at the District 32 tournament.

Under the direction of Coach John Cook, the local lads battled all the way to the championship game before being eliminated by Paupack, 13-7.

This final contest was a crowd-pleasing epic that lasted eight innings and left fans in Newfoundland happily exhausted.

Sunday evening’s grand finale saw Western Wayne stage a wild four run rally in the bottom of the sixth to force extra innings.

Sadly for a huge throng of Varden fans who made the trek south, Paupack sealed the deal on a D-32 crown by plating seven runs in the top of the eighth.

“I couldn’t possibly be any prouder of this team,” a tearful Coach Cook told TWI Sports after the awards ceremony. “They have so much heart...they just refused to quit, I?love these kids.”

On the Field
Logan Bolduc, Max Burrier, Larry Metschulat and Alex Kuha each toed the rubber for Western Wayne in the title tilt.

Paupack built a 5-1 lead heading into the sixth, but the home team wasn’t ready to call it a night. Coach Cook’s boys staged a desperate 11th hour rally, scoring four times for a 5-5 deadlock.

Dylan Walck, Wade Metschulat, Larry Metschulat, Lucas Scott and Kuha each ripped a key single during the uprising. Burrier blasted an RBI?double and later came in to score himself.

Paupack seized the lead again in the top of the seventh, but Western Wayne rallied once again. Walck singled and raced all the way to third on an error. He eventually tallied on  a Metschulat safety.

Western Wayne put up its final run in the eighth when Scott smoked a double and scampered home courtesy of a Johnny Barcarola RBI base knock.

“These kids showed a ton of character,”?Coach Scott said. “We didn’t win today, but they’ll be back...I?guarantee you that.”
