Three local youth baseball teams have qualified for the 2012 Moosic Mountains Playoff Tournament. Major and Minor League brackets are already out and play begins in earnest for Waymart's own Firmstone/Lakewood Oil, BGP and Northeast Cabinets Thursday.
According to organizer Frank O’Neill, teams from around the region are starting their Babe Ruth tourney title quests this week.

Two Waymart-based ball clubs (Firmstone/Lakewood Oil and Beck, Gogolski, Poska & Co.) are alive in the Minor Division.
Firmstone Oil is slated to go up against Valley View this evening at the RD?Wilson Field in Waymart. Manager Joe Gombita’s lads are the #1 seed in their bracket and are a prohibitive favorite to earn a spot in the semifinals.
BGP fought its way into the final field with a 15-9 play-in victory over the Forest City Tigers.
Should Firmstone defeat fourth seeded Homish TV, it would face the winner of Wednesday’s game between Forest City and BGP. That contest was to be played at Kennedy Park.
The Minor League final is tentativesly scheduled for next Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. in Minooka.
Meanwhile in the Major League bracket, another Waymart squad is poised to make a run at the championship game.
Forest City’s Blackhawks are the #1 seed and was to host the Vikings Wednesday evening. The winner of that game will battle whoever survives the encounter between Waymart’s Northeast Cabinets (#3) and Valley View’s Cougar Auto (#2).
The championship game is slated for next Thursday at the Minooka Field.
