After suffering a shutout in Game One, Hamlin rebounded with a solid performance in Game Two of the District 15 American Legion Senior Baseball playoffs.
Sadly for fans of the Rangers, even this superior effort wasn’t enough against a Hawley team that seemed destined for the finals from Week One of the season.
The Toros rallied from a one run deficit in the top of the 7th, then held off one last Ranger rally en route to a 6-5 victory.
With the loss, Hamlin is eliminated from the tournament title hunt two games to none. The Rangers closed out their 2012 summer campaign with a 7-10 mark.
“I?think we had a terrific season,” Coach Mike Packer told TWI?Sports. “We only had one win last year, so we improved tremendously.”
Hawley will now advance to the finals and a date with Milford. That best-of-three series is slated to begin on Monday evening at Wallenpaupack Area. First pitch will be thrown at 5:30 p.m.
Milford finished off a sweep of its own in the other semifinal, eliminating Montrose via an 11-1 win.
Over & Out
Hamlin spotted Hawley a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but then roughed up Toros starter Dan Skibber for two in the home half.
Matt Lukeski paced the Rangers’ offensive assault on this day. The hard-hitting outfielder reached base in all three of his plate appearances. He walked, singled and hit a 2-run homer.
Kyle Johnson took the hill as Post 807’s starting pitcher and worked four innings before Coach Packer went to the bullpen.
Kevin Karabin pitched a scoreless 6th, but the Toros got to Bob Dyer in the 7th and he absorbed the loss.
Nate Packer and Karabin each chipped in a key hit for the Rangers. Packer singled, scored a run and drove in another, while Karabin accounted for two RBIs.
Chris Duff led the Hawley attack with two hits (including a triple), two runs scored and a pair of RBIs.
