Lake Ariel pitcher Matt Roberts fired a no-hitter against Valley View during a recent Wayne County Teener League baseball game.

When Matt Roberts strode to the hill last week for a Wayne County Teener League game with Valley View, no one had any idea history was in the making.

A tall, flame-throwing righty, Roberts just utterly dominated the visitors from Archbald. He pitched five stellar frames, allowing just two baserunners via walk on his way to pitching a no-hitter.

“I was pretty excited,” he said with a shy smile just moments before taking the hill Monday evening for a playoff game.

Roberts and his Cyclone teammates dominated this contest, cruising to a 10-0 Mercy Rule win.

Mark Roberts, Lake Ariel manager and Matt’s Dad, was quick to heap praise on his son and ace of the Cyclones’ staff.

“He’s a great kid and I’m very proud of him,” Coach Roberts said. “Matt’s had to overcome a lot of things to get where he is. I’ll always be very proud of him.”

Matt piled up 10 Ks in his mound masterpiece, including seven straight at one point.

Teammate Spencer Carey led the offensive charge, banging out three hits and scoring four runs in support of his pitcher.

Roberts is also an accomplished golfer who posted a 6-2-0 record for Western Wayne last year in Lackawanna League action.

Matt is the son of Mark & Helen Roberts, Lake Ariel.
