Dirlam Brothers and Highhouse Oil met on the diamond this week to determine a Honesdale Missy Softball Association championship.
The Bulls and Maniacs squared off at Fred Reisch Memorial Field Thursday evening before an enthusiastic crowd.
Highhouse Oil drew first blood in this one, taking a 1-0 lead after its initial turn at bat. However, Dirlam Brothers stormed right back, scoring seven runs in the next three frames.
The Bulls then rolled to a 13-7 win, claiming the 2012 Senior Division title. They closed out the season with a 12-5 overall record.
Early & Often
Camden Bannan ignited the Maniacs’ offense, leading off the first with a single. The Highhouse Oil shortstop eventually scampered home, giving her team a short-lived 1-0 lead.
Dirlam Brothers retaliated with three runs in the home second, then put the game away with a 6-run rally in the 5th.
Ellie Redick brought the fans to their feet with a second inning homer.
Megan McGinnis and Jami Lesek each smoked a double, while Stephanie Matlaga and Madison O’-Hare added singles.
The Maniacs tallied four runs in the top of the 4th, but were held scoreless in the final two innings.
“I’m so proud of my girls,” said Highhouse Oil coach Amy Potter. “Even though we came up a little short, they never gave up.”
Jami Lesek took the hill as Dirlam Brothers starter and earned the decision. She worked four innings and received relief help from Ellie Redick.
Lesek was dominating over the course of her four frames, piling up an eye-popping 12 strikeouts.
“This is a fantastic group of girls,”?Bulls skipper Jeff Lesek said. “We had a lot of fun and I’m really sorry to see the season end.”
Ashlyn Gregory, Brianna Potter and Bannan each took a turn in the circle for Highhouse Oil. Emma Olver scored a pair of runs.
