  • Tusten's Alec Babyak Twirls Teener League No-Hitter

  • It's small wonder the Tusten Chiefs just closed out another undefeated season in Wayne County Teener League action when pitchers like Alec Babyak take the hill twice a week.

  • When Alec Babyak strode to the mound Monday night at the Damascus School Field, no one had any idea they’d be witnessing a bit of local baseball history.
Babyak is the ace of the Tusten Chiefs pitching staff ...no mean feat for a franchise that’s finished either first or second in eight of the last 10 Wayne County Teener League seasons.
On this particular night, however, Babyak confirmed  his mound dominance by twirling a no-hitter against Forest City.
“He’s a very confident kid on the mound,” Coach Joe Curreri told TWI Sports. “When Alec is on top of his game, he just pounds the strike zone. He keeps batters off-balance with a good fastball and a really nasty curveball.”
When the dust settled on this one, Tusten celebrated a 10-0 Mercy Rule victory over the Foresters.
    Masterpiece
To the surprise of absolutely no one, Tusten rolled into Monday’s contest with a flawless 11-0 record...all alone in first place.
Babyak treated fans to a glimpse of what was to come in the top of the first inning. Alec set Forest City down 1-2-3 and recorded a pair of strikeouts. He would finish up the game with seven Ks.
The visitors managed to eke out just five baserunners in the entire contest, none of whom advanced beyond second base.
Alec’s defense rose to the occasion, especially the infield, which turned inning ending doubleplays in the second and fifth.
Offensively, Babyak helped his own cause with two hits, two stolen bases and three runs scored.
Peter Kelly also contributed to the cause. The hard-hitting second sacker ripped two hits, walked and tallied three times. The big blow was an RBI?triple in the home fifth.
Babyak saved his best for the final frame. Alec fanned two of the last three batters he faced to seal the deal on his mound masterpiece.
Alec is the son of Greg &?Emily Babyak, Hawley.
