Cora's Bistro swept a Tuesday night twinbill from Lauersen's at Bingham Park in Hawley. The Beavers won the opener by a score of 13-2 and took the nightcap, 3-1.
Cora’s Bistro is shrugging off a rain soaked start to the regular season and beginning to make its annual playoff push.
On Monday evening in Hawley’s Bingham Park, the Beavers posted a rare doubleheader sweep over Lauersen’s. Cora’s romped to a 13-2 win in the opener, then added a 3-1 victory in the nightcap.
Sue Zieres drew the start in Game One and went the distance for the win. The veteran righty surrendered two runs in the bottom of the first, but then held Lauersen’s scoreless the rest of the way.
Zieres helped her own cause at the plate, banging out three hits including a pair of doubles.
Brighid Bauer also terrorized Ladybug starter Jaclyn Ellefsen, ripping an RBI triple and two singles.
Stacey Hughes and Courtney Roche chipped in with two hits apiece.
Cora’s Megan Fuller and Tiffany Hoffman of Lauersen’s went head-to-head in a Game Two pitcher’s duel.
Fuller was brilliant in this one. The fireballing righty allowed just an unearned run in the first en route to a 3-1 decision. Fuller fanned six Ladybugs in five frames.
Bauer provided the firepower. The Beavers’ lead-off batter crushed a solo homer to right center in the top of the third inning.
Heather Rieman singled in the first and added an RBI?base knock in the third.
Annie Vega walked and scored the Ladybugs' lone run in the first. She was chased home on back-to-back singles by Hope Lauersen and Heather Kelly.
