Hawley appears to have a spot in the upcoming District 15 playoffs guaranteed. The Toros domainted the FMS Generals last week, hammering out a 14-4 Mercy Rule win thanks in large part to Erik Pulkkinen.
On a steamy summer night at Lackawanna Trail, Hawley broke open what had been a close game and rolled to a Mercy Rule win over the FMS?Generals.
Erik Pulkkinen turned in a stellar all-round performance in this one, pitching and batting the Toros to 14-4 victory in District 15 American Legion action.
With this latest win, Post 311 upped its league-leading record to 8-2.
Weather permitting, the Toros were slated for a weekend twinbill. Hawley was to battle these same FMS Generals on the shores of The Big Lake.
Pulkkinen made a name for himself as a Gold Glove type middle infielder during his high school career at Wallenpaupack Area.
Erik is now in his final year of American Legion eligibility and he’s certainly making it count. In Hawley’s most recent victory, Pulkkinen drew the starting nod and went the distance for a win.
He shrugged off temperatures in the 90s in pitching five stellar frames. The fireballing righty allowed just three earned runs while striking out five and surrendering three hits.
Pulkkinen also terrorized FMS pitchers at the plate. He pounded out three hits in four at-bats, scored a pair of runs and collected four RBIs. The highlight of this offensive outburst came in the top of the fifth when he hammered a bases-loaded double.
Luke Camuso, Brandon Newsome and James Goetz also came up huge in key situations for Hawley.
Camuso reached base in all three of his at-bats and scored three times. Newsome singled and scored a pair of runs. Goetz singled, stole a base and tallied.
Mike Henry contributed two RBIs to the cause and Danny Skibber went 2-for-2 with two runs scored.
