The beat goes on for Cherry Ridge Veterinary Clinic in Wayne County Women's Softball League competition. The Beach Lake-based ballclub exploded for a 24-1 Mercy Rule win over Busy Beaver Tree Service on Monday.
Cherry Ridge Veterinary Clinic is once again staking claim to the title of best team in the Wayne County Women’s Softball League.
On Monday in Bingham Park, CRVC reeled off its fifth consecutive win of the 2012 campaign.
The Beach Lake-based squad raced out to a big early lead against Busy Beaver Tree Service, then cruised to a 24-1 Mercy Rule shortened victory.
With this win, CRVC?is now 5-0 on the year and all alone atop the standings. Next up for the local lasses is a home game against Ravenhaus. The Varden girls suffered a disappointing 17-8 loss at the hands of the Crossroads.
Monday’s showdown is scheduled for a 6:45 p.m. start in Beach Lake.
Becky Loring strode to the circle as CRVC’s starter and fired two shutuot innings before handing the ball off to the bullpen.
Jenn Pritchard came on in relief and worked the final three frames. The two talented twirlers combined for four Ks while allowing just seven Busy Beaver basehits.
Laurie Knapp drew the start for the home team and took the loss. She pitched all five innings.
Offensively, CRVC raced out to a double digit lead with 11 runs in the first two frames. The visitors went on to tally in every inning before the Mercy Rule kicked in to end the game.
Nicki Malloy paced the offensive attack, enjoying a perfect 5-for-5 day at the dish. CRVC’s veteran third baseman ripped three singles, doubled, tripled and scored four runs.
Carli Curtis also banged out five hits in five trips for Cherry Ridge. She smoked a double and tallied twice.
Kelly Gombita hammered out four hits including a two-bagger. Lindsey Dirlam, Carley Gustin, Lori Curis and Chris Gustin each contributed three hits to the cause.
Rounding out the offensive barrage for the visitors were Kristen Scull (2-for-2, two runs); Becky Loring (2-for-3, double, two runs); Andrea Beck (2-for-4).
For Busy Beaver, Karly Knapp paced the offensive assault with three hits in three plate appearances. Pinar Sengun held down the Hot Corner and chipped in with a basehit.
Michelle Wilcox also hit safely and JoAnn Perry tallied her team’s lone run.
