  • Busy Beaver Tree Service raced out to an early lead Wednesday evening at Bingham Park.
However, Ravenhaus roared back in the middle innings to secure a 17-11 win in Week Five Wayne County Women’s Softball action.
With this victory, the Varden girls improved their 2012 regular season record to 3-1. Busy Beaver, who has been bedeviled by bad weather all year, now stands at 1-1.
Both teams return to action Monday night and each faces a stern test. Ravenhaus will host undefeated Cherry Ridge Veterinary Clinic, while Ravenhaus puts out the welcome mat for The Crossroads.
All Wayne County Women’s Softball League games begin at 6:45 p.m.
    Early Deficit
Allison Glossenger took the hill as the Ravenhaus starter and ran into trouble almost immediately.
Busy Beaver erupted for four runs in the bottom of the first, thanks to a combination of timely basehits and fielding miscues.
Laurie Knapp, Karly Knapp, Pinar Sengun, Lori Frick and Michelle Wilcox all reached base to start the game. Laurie was eventually erased on a fielder’s choice, but the other four runners all came in to score.
Ravenhaus then began its comeback bid with five runs in the top of the second.
Kristy Dumback provided the big blow, crushing a 3-run homer. The hard-hitting third sacker would go on to reach safely five times and score a total of three runs.
Dumback also dazzled defensively at the Hot Corner. Kristy ended the bottom of the third in dramatic fashion, leaping to snare a line drive for the third out and stranding two runners.
Jamie Rickard was equally impressive for Ravenhaus, both in the field and at the dish.
A fiery redheaded shortstop, Rickard hammered our four hits on the day, including a line drive 2-run homer up the alley in left center. Jamie also flashed some serious Gold Glove defense, at one point cutting down a Busy Beaver runner at the plate with a laserbeam throw.
Shanna Solomon, Jess Gregorski, Jamie Schmalzle and Barb Parzych also came around to score in the second inning.
Glossenger settled down after that rough opening frame. The veteran righty allowed just two more runs until the bottom of the seventh, when the home team put up a 5-spot.
Allison scattered 13 hits and allowed a total of eight earned runs. She struck out three and issued four free passes.
Laurie Knapp earned the starting assignment for Busy Beaver. She received a bit of relief help from daughter Karley in the middle innings, but then returned to close things out.
Knapp was the beneficiary of several stellar plays in the infield.
Sengun led the way with a spectacular unassisted double play. Pinar snagged a blistering line drive down the line that seemed destined for extra bases. She then darted to third and stepped on the bag.
Page 2 of 2 - Offensively, Sengun also came through with one big basehit after another. Pinar led all Busy Beaver batters with a perfect 4-for-4 outing. She scored two runs and collected a pair of RBIs with a single up the middle in the bottom of the seventh.
