Senior Dalton Derrick led a parade of Hornets to the dais this weekend in tournament wrestling action at Minisink Valley. Honesdale's senior went undefeated en route to a gold medal at 215 pounds as the Red & Black finished fourth.

The Hornets traveled to Minisink Valley on Saturday to compete in that school’s annual wrestling tourney.

Honesdale turned in a solid all-round effort and wound up with a 4th place overall finish.

“You know, we’re starting to eliminate some of those peaks and valleys,” Coach Ryan Chulada told TWI Sports. “We’re beginning to be a little more consistent as a team and as individuals and that’s what I want to see.”

This weekend’s tourney was hosted by Minisink Valley and attracted some of the top teams in New York.

Longwood, a squad that hails from Long Island and is ranked #1 in New York, finished first in the overall standings.

Next up for Honesdale is a Wednesday evening road trip to Abington Heights.
That Lackawanna League match is set for a 6:45 p.m. start in Clarks Summit.

Derrick Dalton paced the Red & Black attack, going unbeaten en route to an individual gold medal.

A battle-tested senior, Dalton ran roughshod over the competition at 215. He posted a pair of pins to sew up a spot in the final, then hammered out a 6-3 win in the title tilt.

“Dalton is really starting to be more aggressive on the mat,” said Coach Chulada. “He’s scoring more points and not being content with just a decision.”

Matt Evans (119)?and Aaron Kennedy (125)?both won three bouts and earned silver medals.

Ryan Smith (130), Zach Smith (152) and Conar Carroll (171) each came home with a bronze.
