The Wildcats' eighth grade hoops team battled valiantly against Delaware Valley, but came out on the short end of a 30-25 final in Lackawanna League action.


Western Wayne’s eighth grade boys basketball team jetted out to an early lead against Delaware Valley, but faded down the stretch.

As a result, the young ‘Cat cagers suffered yet another disappointing loss in loss in Lackawanna League junior high action. The final score was 30-25.

With this setback, Coach Matt Fitzsimmons’ squad fell to 2-7 on the year.

“We’re definitely getting there,”?he told TWI?Sports. “This is a tough league, but we’ve been competitive in just about every game. If we could catch a couple of breaks here &?there, it’d be a very different story.”

Western Wayne will be back on the hardwood Saturday morning versus North Pocono. The eighth grade contest is slated for an 11:00 a.m. start in the middle school gym.

Back & Forth
The Wildcats took an 8-7 lead after one quarter in Thursday’s battle with DV.

Matt Lombardi and Billy Schumacher paced the off-ensive attack.

Lombardi, who is Western Wayne’s primary ball handler, rattled the rims for eight points. Schumacher, the team’s two-guard, also recorded eight.

Unfortunately for the Varden Garden faithful, DV dominated the middle two periods. The Warriors outscored their hosts by a margin of 16-7 in the second and third quarters.

Kolyn Schane contributed three points to the ‘Cat cause. Josh Miller, Mike Valenti & Joe Clauss chipped in with two each.
