We are not immune to this right here in our own area. Unfortunately all it takes is one bad incident like this to cast a shadow on the rest of the many hard working, honest contractors who make a living here in Wayne and other surrounding counties. In 2007 I hired a local contractor, Frank Bannan (Fem Hill Stone Works) to install a sidewalk with blocks and decorative paver stones from my driveway leading up to the front porch.
When the job was finished I was impressed with the look and natural enhancement of the walkway. Over the course of the next two winters, the sidewalk began to heave and the blocks separated causing considerable damage to the stones. In the spring of 2008 after contacting  Bannan some repairs were made to try and correct the damage.
At the end of this past winter the damage from the frost was more apparent and some stones began to crack from up heaving. In my frustration I wrote a letter to Bannan who contacted me immediately after receiving it. After assessing the situation and reviewing the damage, Bannan completely removed and restored the entire sidewalk with a poured concrete base to anchor the blocks and paver stones.
The newly restored sidewalk is more impressive than before and Bannan is an example of an honest local businessman who with integrity sets the bar at a higher level. My hat is off to Frank Bannan and Fern Hill Stone Works.
Sincerely,
