State Police, Honesdale, report the death of Edward “Ted” Wallingford, 25, of Honesdale, in a motor vehicle accident, early Friday. The pickup he was driving crashed on Owego Turnpike, Canaan Township, at approximately 2 a.m.
Wallingford was pronounced dead afterward, at Community Medical Center (CMC).
He was an accomplished football player. The starting quarterback for the Electric City Chargers since last year, he played for the Scranton Eagles for the past three years.  He was an all-conference quarterback at Ursinus College and Honesdale High School.
Trooper Michael Pritchyk stated that Wallingford was traveling east on Owego Turnpike (SR 3028) and failed to negotiate a right hand curve in the roadway. The 1999 Chevrolet S10 LS crossed over the roadway and struck the embankment.
At that point, the truck spun counter-clockwise and began to roll over. This motion caused the driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, to be ejected from the vehicle. The pickup came to final rest partially off the north berm across the road on its wheels.
Wallingford was transported to CMC in Scranton by Waymart Ambulance and Cottage ALS. He was later pronounced dead at CMC due to his injuries, said Trooper Pritchyk.
The collision investigation is still pending.
Waymart Fire Department and Paul’s Towing also assisted at the scene.
