This phrase is used several times in the Bible pertaining to the Lord God -- and rightly so -- as He is the perfection of both Beauty and Holiness.
First, let’s look at the meaning of these two important words --
BEAUTY -- “the evidence of being very pleasing -- a thing having quality.”
HOLINESS -- “a term indicating sanctity, or separation from all that is sinful, impure, or morally imperfect -- moral wholeness -- one of the essential attributes of the Divine nature -- entire freedom from moral evil -- absolute moral perfection.”
Now, let’s look at some Scripture verses proclaiming these meanings toward God --
“Give to the Lord the Glory due His Name -- come before Him -- Oh, Worship the Lord in The Beauty of Holiness” (1 Chronicles 16:29).
“Oh, Worship the Lord in The Beauty of Holiness -- tremble before Him, all the earth” (Psalm 96:9).
“One thing I have desired of the Lord -- that will I seek -- that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life -- to behold The Beauty of the Lord” (Psalm 27:4).
“Let The Beauty of the Lord our God be upon us” (Psalm 90:17).
Notice the emphasis of the word Worship -- this is all out adoration and expression of love and gratitude in appreciation for His Sustaining Power.
Sunday Morning Worship Service is supposed to be just that, but in many Churches it has been replaced by the drum beat, the jumping and gyrations of the singers, the screaming of the vocalists bringing attention to themselves, and the story-telling of the pastors. What has happened to the beautiful hymns to prepare the congregation for Worship? What has happened to the deep Bible teaching to challenge the hearts of the people to live better lives and witness to others of their Faith? What has happened to the WORSHIP Service?
There are some great preachers and Ministries on TV -- but the vast majority are there for enlarging their own brand of Christianity, and financial gain.
Sloppy dressing, blue jeans, short skirts, plunging neck-lines, and obviously expensive backgrounds and equipment -- and the refusing to adhere to simple Bible admonitions of conduct. What has happened to -- “Thus says the Lord?”
“A little leaven leavens the whole lump” (Galatians 5:9) -- a little worldliness brings more and more of the world into our Services!
Is it “Old Fashioned” to appreciate seeing those up-front dressed properly in a Service? Is it “Old Fashioned” to appreciate meaningful soul-stirring Hymns? Is it “Old Fashioned” to be repulsed by drums and guitars being most prominent on the platform? Is it “Old Fashioned” for the Preacher to stand behind a pulpit? What’s happened to our Church WORSHIP Services?
We are to come to Church to Worship the Lord in the “Beauty of HIS Holiness,” to leave the Service in the warm glow of HIS Love, and with the Word of God on our hearts and minds.
The Lord’s Day should be just that -- Worship -- Rest -- Relaxing -- Rejuvenating -- Family Time -- Recharging our Spiritual Batteries to face the world on Monday morning and the rest of the week.
Oh, WORSHIP the Lord in “The Beauty of Holiness.”
