Hawley Borough Council has two hearings scheduled before its meeting next month, into a Conditional Use for a smoke shop/check cashing store being proposed on Main Ave.
Council scheduled a Conditional Use hearing for 6:30 pm on April 14 for Laxmi PA LLC’s application to put a smoke shop/check cashing store in the former gas station on Main Ave. next to the Post Office. Peter Patel represented the Laxmi as Council set the hearing.
In addition to the store, Laxmi also want to put in two apartments in the former garage, which has been empty for several months.
Solicitor Robert Bernathy told Patel, the applicant had the burden to prove its case in meeting the Borough’s ordinances to allow the Conditional Use approval.
That Conditional Use Hearing will be the second one of the night. Going first will be Ed Ahern’s application to combine a lot he is purchasing from the rail line to a property he owns off of Paupack St.
While Ahern characterizes his application as a minor subdivision, Bernathy said it was more complicated than that. He explained that while there is little in legal obstacles against it, Ahern also needs the Borough to rezone the property to allow for the size of the lot. The lot would be too small for its current zone, but would be allowed in the Commercial Zone.
The Hearing on the Zoning Amendment is set for 6 p.m. April 14.
