Marisa Gallik & Audrey Calkin provided a potent 1-2 offensive punch in leading Honesdale to a 61-22 rout of the Lady 'Cats in D-2 hoops action. Gallik scored a game-high 17 points, while Calkin tallied 12 and pulled down 11 rebounds.

Honesdale dominated Saturday’s District Two play-off game against Western Wayne right from the opening tip.

Marisa Gallik did most of the damage early on. The Lady Hornet guard drained two treys en route to a 10-point first quarter eruption.

Gallik would finish the night with a game-high 17 points, leading the Red & Black to a 61-22 massacre in this first round Class AAA contest.

“We hit some big shots in the first quarter and things just basically fell into place from there,” Coach Tracy Ludwig told TWI Sports. “I think our girls played very well and I’m looking forward to our next district game.”

Honesdale will now advance to meet perennial District Two powerhouse Nanticoke in the Class AAA quarterfinals. That contest is slated to begin at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday night at Pittston Area.

On the Floor
Western Wayne was forced to play Saturday’s game without leading scorer Charclie Brink.

The shorthanded Lady ‘Cats put up a gallant fight, but simply weren’t able to muster any consistent offense in Brink’s absence.

Abby Carmody led the way for Western Wayne. A sophomore guard, Abby nailed a pair of treys and ended up with a team-best 11 points.

“I think we played pretty good defense, but we just couldn’t get any shots to go in,” Carmody said. “It was really frustrating.”

Honesdale’s offense was clicking on all cylinders right from the get-go, silencing a normally boisterous Varden crowd.

Gallik led the way, scoring all of her 17 points in the first half.

Audrey Calkin dominated play in the paint, powering her way to 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Kim Martin and Mary Martin chipped in with nine points apiece, while Anna Albers contributed six to the Red & Black attack.

Honesdale took command of this game with a 15-3 first period advantage. The Lady Hornets then sealed the deal with a 27-7 second quarter run.
