Wallenpaupack Area's junior high wrestling team put the finishing touches on another outstanding season with a Lackawanna League title. Coach Scott Gee's Bucks defeated both West Scranton and Ding-Del in a rare tri-meet held to break a 3-way tie for first place.
Wallenpaupack Area’s junior high wrestling team closed out yet another stellar season with a pair of unforgettable performances.
With rookie coach Scott Gee calling the shots, the young Buckhorns captured the 2009-’10 Lackawanna League team title by defeating West Scranton and Ding-Del in a rare tri-meet.
“That was pretty amazing,” Coach Gee told TWI Sports. “The kids did a great job. They stayed focused and took care of business. I’m thrilled with what we’ve accomplished this year.”
Paupack eked out a thrilling 48-47 decision over the Warriors, then cruised to a 57-43 victory over the Invaders.
With these two wins, the Bucks finished up the regular season with a 16-4 overall record and claimed the Division One crown.
Paupack has now won four of the last five Lackawanna League titles.
“This team really exceeded my expectations,” Coach Gee said. “The kids worked very hard and they deserve everything they get.”
Dylan Broschart played the hero’s role for Paupack on this day.
An unsung hero this year at 130, Broschart had to deliver a pin for the Bucks to defeat Ding-Del and keep their title hopes alive.
Dylan did just that, coming through in the clutch and sealing the deal on a razor-thin 1-point win.
Ben Dietsch and Chase Gallik also played key roles in Paupack’s sweep.
Dietsch quashed West Scranton’s championship hopes with a huge win performance at 115.
Gallik continued his storybook season with a pair of pins at 85.
