On Sunday afternoon at Lakeside Elementary, the Rockets roared to a championship in Honesdale Biddy Basketball Association action. Led by the 1-2 punch of Justin LoBasso & Evan Bass, the Rockets defeated the Bullets in the 2009-'10 Junior Division championship game.

The Rockets used relentless defense and just enough offense to claim a 2009-’10 Honesdale Biddy Basketball team title this past weekend.

With veteran coaches Joe Gombita, Andy Box & Luke Duda calling the shots, the Rockets roared to a 20-18 victory over the Bullets in Sunday’s Junior Division championship game.

The Rockets had punched their ticket to the final Saturday afternoon via a razor-thin 14-12 decision over Spurs.

With these wins, the Rockets closed out their season with an outstanding 8-1 record.

After going 6-1 in the regular season, the Rockets earned a #2 seed in this year’s Junior Division play-off bracket.

The champs held off a scrappy Spurs squad in Saturday’s semifinal to earn a berth in the championship game.

Justin LoBasso led the Rockets to victory, scoring a team-best eight points. Will Howell paced the Spurs with eight markers of his own.

On Sunday, the Rockets ratcheted up the defensive pressure even more. They held the Bullets to just a pair of baskets and eight total points after intermission.

The Rockets trailed by five points after one period and went into the break on the short end of a 10-5 score. However, with LoBasso leading the charge, the Rockets erased that deficit and held on for the win.

All of Justin’s points came from the free throw stripe as he converted 7-of-12 attempts.

Evan Bass also played a key role in the comeback. Evan scored all five of his points in the fourth quarter, igniting an 11-6 run that sealed the deal.

Connor Eisele, Jack Firmstone, Patrick Hall and Jason Passaro each contributed a key basket.

Mark Ambrose paced the Bullets with a memorable performance in the paint. One of the division’s top centers, Ambrose powered his way to a double double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Daniel Bryant (four pts), Sebastian West (two pts) and Zach Predmore (one pts) rounded out the Bullets’ scoring.
