Shanty Hill Racing piled up the awards & accolades at this year's Bethel Motor Speedway Banquet. Gary VanOrden Sr., Amber VanOrden and Gary VanOrden Jr. all walked away with trophies for their memorable performances at the New York raceway.
Last weekend, Hawley’s VanOrden family made a familiar trip toward the Bethel Motor Speedway in White Lake, New York.
This time, however, instead of going all the way up to the track, their destination was Brookside Manor in Middletown for the track's awards banquet, where several family members picked up trophies and accolades for their accomplishments all season.
Racing is undoubtedly in the VanOrden’s blood.
Gary competes in the Street Stock division, while his children Gary Jr. and Amber both field cars in the competitive 4 Cylinder Junior class. Tonya, his wife, is the videographer at the speedway.
This year, Gary recorded an impressive 14 regular season wins, and walked away with the Street Stock championship.
He dominated the class right from the outse, with only three other drivers collecting wins during the regular season.
In the track's October "Bethel Motor Madness" weekend, Gary grabbed two wins in three races, and finished second overall. In addition to his championship trophy, Gary will receive a custom-fitted leather jacket from the speedway in recognitioon of his accomplishments.
Gary Jr. finished third in overall points in the 4 Cylinder Junior division, while Amber was seventh in the standings for the season.
Both Gary & Gary Jr. were also recognized by speedway officials for compiling a perfect attendance record, competing in every one of their respective divisions' scheduled races.
Amber, who also plays softball and golf competitively, suffered early-season engine woes and missed some events.
